Humble Civic Arena for the City of Humble
M T Crump was selected by the City of Humble to design a Multi-Purpose Arena and Exhibit Building of approximately 105,000 square feet on a 10-acre site adjoining the existing Civic Center facility. The exhibit portion of the building provides exhibit space for livestock shows, car shows, boat shows, and the like. The arena portion provides seating for almost 5,000, an arena floor area of 100 by 250 feet for rodeos, concerts, bicycle events, graduations, etc.
A thirty-foot high wall of white metal panels resting on white split-faced c.m.u and brilliant red concrete columns, emphasizes the west facade facing the Civic Center. These walls are joined at the center by two steel box trusses painted a matching bright red with a seven-foot diameter cast aluminum replica of the city seal suspended between them. This forms the grand entry to the main exhibit area. The exhibit area then joins the arena for easy use by contiguous functions. The Arena features an oxidizing gray metal roof and white metal panels with two accent bands of dark blue panels punctuated at the column by gray metal cubes.
